Earth of 2096 is scorched, and speed is the best thing people have left. Atomic sphere-racers tear through the ruined cities: that is SCORCHER. The champions were the first to leave for the stars — their icosahedron racers became the starships of the STARSCORCH raid, and the strongest pilot, Red Menace, crowned himself lord of six systems. While the raid was underway, mutant rats stole the racing team's mascot — Marysia the cat. She escaped her cage on Vesta and is now making her way home across the same six planets: STARPAWS.
